Bhutan

Bhutan is situated on the southern slopes of eastern Himalayas with an area of 40067 square kilo meters. Sparsely populated sovereign nation, Bhutan, is bordered by the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China in the north and by the Indian states of Sikkim, Arunanchal Pradesh, West Bengal and Assam in the west, east and south. Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar are other close neighbouring countries of Bhutan.

The physical features of this country are characterized by high, rugged mountain and a wide network of deep valleys, meadows and moraines, waterfalls, alpine lakes, dense forest and farmlands and human settlements. The territory of this beautiful country rises from an elevation of 100 meter above from sea level to 7570 meter. To the north of Bhutan endless mountain peaks are soaring including the world's highest unclimbed mountain peak Gangkar Peunsum 7570 meter.

Known as 'The Land of the Peaceful Thunder Dragon', Bhutan is often compared with Switzerland because of its small size, wonderful panoramic landscape and other dramatic scenery and thus it has got a nick name of 'the Switzerland of Asia'.

However, the people of the kingdom of Bhutan are from various ethnic groups with different dialects, cultures and religions; teaching and learning of Buddhism are living faith of this country.

Despite opening tourism-trade in the 70s; it has managed to minimize the influences of outside world, and, in fact, the country is award-winning on preserving a healthy environment, Buddhist culture and awesome architecture in their original form.
