Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The trek of Annapurna Base Camp, also known as Annapurna Sanctuary, bestows a brilliant ecological charm to the journeyers. This trek can be done anytime of the year and it is more interesting in spring as the whole forest along the trail turns into red, pink and white with rhododendron flowers and other vegetation in bloom. Since the trail is well developed, this package has been designed offering meals and accommodation in lodges; however camping trek is quite possible to arrange.

The trek starts from ‘Dhampus Phedi’, a short drive of 30 minutes from Pokhara. Trekking trail takes journeyers up to Annapurna Base Camp through tremendously fascinating traditional villages of Nepal’s various ethnic groups; mainly Gurung, Magar, Thakali and so on. From the ‘trek-start-point’ you will gradually hike through villages and dense rhododendron forest with amazing view of towering snow-capped mountain peaks and will cross Machhapuchhare (Fish-tail) base camp and reach at Annapurna Base Camp 4100m, the highest point of this trek. While you come back from Annapurna Base Camp, the retrace is even more interesting because the trail encircles different ridges towards Ghorepani village, and next morning climbs up POON HILL 3210m, where you behold breathtaking sunrise and numerous snow-capped peaks of the Annapurnas and Dhaulagiri mountain range.

Itinerary

We have developed an itinerary for this trip as follow.

Day 01 [Arrival in Nepal]:
The flight to Nepal keeps you highly pleasing and thrilling while you will be flying in the sky above the territory of Nepal. On a clear day, you get to see an amazing view of snow-capped mountain peaks, dense forest and beautiful landscape through the windows of your airliner. You will really be delighted with the beauty of nature you observe from your aircraft. Soon after you complete the immigration process, we meet you at the exit gate of Kathmandu airport and escort you to a three star hotel in downtown. Our valued guests are sincerely suggested to take rest to adapt the local environment; however it is possible to use the time by walking tourist-town around the hotel.

Day 02 [Kathmandu - sightseeing tours of UNESCO's sites]:
Today, we organize a guided sightseeing tour on the following sites listed as world's heritage.

  • Pashupatinath, a widespread area of Shiva's temples and the most respected and sacred sites of Hindu Pilgrims, is the first destination for this day where you get to observe an impressive Hindu rituals and funeral ceremony and meet many "Holy-men" meditating in different postures and see many friendly monkeys and deer in the jungle of Sleshmantak inside Pashupatinath area.
  • Bouddhanath; just after accomplishment of visits of Pashupatinath site, we head for Bouddhanath, the biggest Buddhist stupa in Nepal. Our guide deliberates the historical and cultural background on Buddhism and Buddhist sects. We can have lunch there in the roof-top restaurants from where numerous splendid monasteries and the vistas of Kathmandu valley are visible. Meantime, we see the livings and rituals of Tibetan refugees herein.
  • Swoyambhunath; the next destination after Bouddhanath is Swoyambhunath, popularly known as monkey temple. Swoyambhunath has pride of being the oldest Buddhist stupa in Nepal from where entire Kathmandu valley; including Kirtipur, Patan (Lalitpur), Bhaktapur, the city of Kathmandu and different landmarks are visible if weather is favorable.
  • Kathmandu Durbar Square; one of very interesting, historical and religious place which is also known as Basantapur Durbar. Ancient imperial palace, temple of living goddess - Kumari and many other architecturally important buildings and ancient Hindu temples are observable. Kathmandu Durbar Square has many mysterious sites to observe and hear. Our guide deliberates you the series of its importance. This was an old palace of Malla and then Shah Empires from there Shahs shifted to new Durbar having lively and superior facilities. However there is not king in Nepal at present in the new palace and if time supports us, we take you to the new palace.

Soon after completion of excursion, the guide leads you back to the hotel and let you free time to take rest. We conduct a course of briefing about the trekking trip being started from next day and we introduce you with Trekking Guide at the evening.

Day 03 [Kathmandu-Pokhara-Dhampus Phedi drive, trek to Dhampus Danda]:
You will leave Kathmandu for Dhampus Phedi, trek start point, by 7:00 A.M. accompanied by trekking guide and trek supporting crewmembers. The overland tour from Kathmandu to Dhampus Phedi will be very worthy and humorous for journeyers as they capture colourful and beautiful scenario of fertile land, terraces, villages, gorge, jungle of different vegetation, and rivers through the windows of bus or car. The road is twisted and steep down on hillside for the first one hour, and later on smoothly concrete along the bank of Trishuli River, Seti River and then Marshyangdi River. After 5 hours of gentle drives, you will arrive in Pokhara and stop in Lakeside for Lunch. After lunch, you will continually drive to Dhampus Phedi from where you commence the day's trek uphill to Dhampus Danda; you will enjoy dinner and night in a lodge.

Day 04 [Trek from Dhampus Danda to Lhandrung Village 1545m]:
Just after breakfast, you start the day's trek. The trail becomes narrows as it goes round a crest. Going onwards, you pass through Pothana village and arrive at Deurali village. Here in Deurali, you get to see outstanding view of the Modi Khola on the East side and entire area of sanctuary surrounded by inclusive ambience of nature. The trail continues for about 4-5 hours to Lhandrug Village, a truly pretty Gurung settlement. The spectacular views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli peak boost you more eagerness and excitement for your adventure.

Day 05 [Trek from Lhandrung to Chomorung Village 2110m]:
After breakfast, you will march from Lhandrung Village along the mountain pathway and beautiful stone steps passing a hamlet. You will then cross a suspension bridge. The trail makes you come across dense forest of bamboo later on. After a while, you will approach to teahouses in Jhinu village, where you can enjoy a drink or snacks. The trail gently forwards reaching at Chhomorung village from where you get to see an outstanding view of Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail). Here, you have choices of lodges for accommodation and meals.

Day 06 [Trek from Chhomorung to Dovan 2630m]:
You will begin the day’s walk from Chhomorung Village to the day's destination by crossing Chhomorung Khola (stream). You then continue your trek along the steep stone-steps. You will continue on the trail covered with rhododendron forest, mountainous terrains and forests of bamboo. The amazing views of Annapurnas and Machhapuchhare energize you to go further; you don’t feel any tiredness. You will cross Modi Khola and pass through the villages of Khuldighar and Bamboo. You reach next small settlement; Dovan 2630m, where you will end your trek for this day.

Day 07 [Trek from Dovan village to Machhapuchhare Base Camp 3720m]:
Like previous days, you take breakfast and start trekking for Machhapuchhare Base Camp (the Base Camp of Mount Fish-Tail). Following the trail you will gradually ascend and descend viewing over majestic natural scenario. The trail steeply climbs for a while and the course follows crisscross stone-paths. After 3-4 hours of walk, you enter the Annapurna Sanctuary, a huge arena comprised a solid wall of snow-capped peaks including Annapurna-I, Annapurna-II, Annapurna-III and Annapurna-IV. Finally, you will reach at Machhapuchhare Base Camp, a grassy moraine pedestal, where you will enjoy the night in a lodge.

Day 08 [Continue for Annapurna Base Camp 4100m, get back to Himalaya Hotel]:
As the trail hikes on the Annapurna Sanctuary for 2 hours and descends a small ridge splitting out from the ‘mountain-pass’ to ‘mountainside’ with wide-ranging terraced fields and tranquil meadows. When you will reach Annapurna South Base Camp, you observe overwhelming and illuminating landscapes, majestic panoramic view of snow-capped mountain peaks and various Himalayans cultural settings. The southern slope of the Annapurna massif is amazingly photogenic. After an exceptional pleasure trip of Annapurna Base Camp, you will be back down to Himalaya Hotel for accommodation and dinner in a lodge.

Day 09 [Trek back from Himalaya Hotel to Chomorung village 2110m]:
You will get back along the forested ridge residing in the vicinity of chains of cloud-snaring hills and grass-covered slope leading across a rock-strewn area to the riverbed of Kali Gandaki. The river Kali Gandaki has made the world’s deepest river gorge with a great bio-geographical significance regarded as demarcating Eastern and Western sides. The trail up the Modi Khola passes through dense forests of rhododendron and bamboo bushes. After trekking for about 5 hours, you will reach at the village of Chomorung. From Chomorung you can observe a prominent and mesmerizing view of Machhapuchhare.

Day 10 [Trek from Chhomorung village to Tadapani Village 2520m]:
The trail leads you back using an alternative route Tadapani village. As you go all the way through flatland, forests and terraced fields, you get to see excellent views of Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Annapurna III and Mount Fish Tail.

Day 11 [Trek from Tadapani to Ghorepani 2775m]:
You will start the day's trek after breakfast by the similar manner to previous days. On your way to Ghorepani village, nature allocates you magnificent sight of snow-capped mountain peaks and rich vegetation.

Day 12 [Ghorepani - Climb Poon Hill 3210m Descend to Birethanti]:
Early morning, you will climb on a well-liked Poon Hill 3210m for viewing at sunrise and a mesmerizing sight of mountain massif including Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak and other Himalayan giants. You will then make descend leaving Ghorepani for Birethanti village, which lies beside the Modi Khola (River).

Day 13 [Trek downhill to Nayapul village 1070m from Birethanti 1080m and drive to Pokhara]:
You will make an hour walk to Nayapool and then drive by tourist coach to Pokhara. You will enjoy a night here in a hotel located along the side of Phewa Lake.

Day 14 [Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu]:
After breakfast we drive back to Kathmandu from Pokhara by private coach; we take rest in hotel.

Day 15 [Kathmandu - reserved day]:
It is better to have an extra day in this trip just in case something might go wrong because of unavoidable circumstances. We enjoy this day by visiting other UNESCO's sites; Bhaktapur City - ancient palace, sacred places, local villages, handicrafts manufacture centers, pottery/ceramic center etc. and Patan Durbar Square; ancient palace, sacred places, Local Industrial Areas, handicrafts centers, etc. In the afternoon, you will have free time for last minute shopping.

Day 16 [Depart Kathmandu for home country]:
Drive from hotel to the international airport to depart Nepal for home country.

  • Hotel Accommodation in Kathmandu: We provide 3 Star Hotel accommodations with buffet-breakfast on twin sharing basis (Manang Hotel 3* located in main tourist town, Thamel) for 4 nights as per the suggested itinerary.
  • Hotel Accommodation in Pokhara: Kantipur Hotel 3* located in the foremost place of Pokhara in lakeside with buffet breakfast on twin sharing basis for 1 night
  • Permits: To do this trek, following permits are required. We obtain these permits from related organization in Kathmandu.
    • Annapurna Conservation Area entry permits
    • TIMS cards (Trekking Information Management System Cards)
  • Meals and Accommodation during trek: We provide all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, tea, coffee, juice) and accommodation in lodges - twin sharing basis.
  • Staffs and Porters: Well experienced and trained Trekking guide certified by the government of Nepal and Assistants depending upon the size of group. We provide professional & physically fit Tourist-porters; 1 porter for every 2 trekkers.
  • Land Transport:
    • Airport-Hotel-Airport transfers by private car or tourist coach in Kathmandu as per the suggested itinerary before and after trek
    • A private Tourist Coach or car for Kathmandu-Pokhara-Dhampus Phedi and Nayapul-Pokhara-Kathmandu
    • A private coach or car for sightseeing tour for 2 days as per the suggested itinerary
  • Guided sightseeing Tour in Kathmandu for 2 days: For sightseeing tour; our service includes a Tour Guide, private car or tourist coach and entrance permits as per the itinerary before and after treks.
